QUILT JUDGE

In 2002 I applied for and was delighted to be accepted on the first formal quilt judging course in the UK.  This 2 year distance learning course run by The Quilters’ Guild of The British isles helped me structure and formalise my way of looking at and assessing quilts.  My tutor on the course was Jenni Dobson, who taught me many useful lessons and by treating my sometimes haphazard attempts at the course work with respect taught me to do the same.

In 2004 I became Scotland’s first qualified quilt judge although now I have been joined by Fiona Brockie and Carol Ann Clasper and Jo Rednell.

As well as organising the judging for LLQS I have also been asked to judge Contemporary Small, Quilt Creations, Traditional Small, Innovative, and Student categories at The Festival of Quilts.

For advice on jurying and judging shows and organising competitions or if you would like to talk me about judging your show, please contact me at ruth@ruthhigham.co.uk.
